DmView. Network Management.
DmView
Network Management

DmView is the Integrated Network and Element Management System, made for supervising and configuring Datacom devices, offering status and fail monitoring, configuration, provisioning, audit, performance, security, inventory, network discovery and topological maps.

DmView Maestro is the new Interface, integrating part of DmView, in which the most recent DmView features are available, simplifying and speeding up the operation, since the user just needs to access DmView Maestro using the browser, without installing any software. Among the features already available in DmView Maestro are the CLI templates, which allow to automate and customize mass operations in the network (eg activate services, set up initial infrastructure of the devices), and the complete status and configuration for devices with the DmOS operating system. It is also possible to manage all the network devices and ONUs, in a graphical interface that allows to find the desired elements in a few clicks, among tens of thousands of devices and/or ONUs, and to navigate to the ports, ONUs and configurations. DmView also includes TR-069 management solution (ACS – Auto Configuration Server), which supports Datacom CPEs as well as Multivendor CPEs, and allows to read and configure parameters by CPE, and also execute reboot and firmware/file download for multiple CPEs simultaneously. All DmView Maestro features have detailed auditing: any CLI command, NETCONF configuration or TR-069 parameter sent is audited and can be tracked, as well as all the responses received from the devices.

DmView can be integrated with third-party NMS and OSS/BSS systems, or can operate independently. A wide range of management architectures can be used, from field operation using a notebook to a centralized architecture with redundant application and database servers with high availability, automatic fail-over and load balancing.

Characteristics
  • Simplification and automation of the operation with CLI Templates. The use of templates allows to customize the desired parameters and commands in common operations, and in a few clicks apply simultaneously to multiple network devices. Operations that tipically take tens of minutes to be executed, can have their time drastically reduced, to the order of seconds. Standard templates which come installed from factory with DmView Maestro can be used, or you can create templates suitable for your operation. All commands and responses received are audited by the system;
  • Visualization, monitoring and fast search of the managed devices, their interfaces, ports and MPUs, allowing the identification of operational status, active alarms, in/out traffic and packets statistics;
  • Visualization, monitoring and fast search of the GPON network ONUs, with creation, edition and removal of ONUs in a single step;
  • TR-069 management solution (ACS – Auto Configuration Server): visualization, monitoring and fast search of all network CPEs with TR-069 support, both Datacom and Multivendor. It is possible to retrieve, search and configure TR-069 parameters and objects by CPE, and also perform reboot and firmware/file download in multiple CPEs simultaneously. All parameters/objects sent and responses received are audited by the system;
  • Complete status and configuration for devices with the DmOS operating system. The support do DmOS devices in DmView Maestro is dynamic, based in YANG models. This means that, when a new firmware version or even a new device model is available from Datacom, you won't have to execute any upgrade in your DmView installation. DmView automatically recognizes the new firmware or device model, building the status and configuration screens dynamically with the YANG models loaded from the devices;
  • Multi-user simultaneous access: DmView is operating in production in several environments with more than 200 concurrent users;
  • Distinct access levels, configurable by user or users group. It is possible to restrict the operation by device model, location, and by specific functionalities of the system;
  • Reception, correlation and treatment of events/traps generated by the devices, with automatic notification of failures occurrence and option to execute a specific action (e-mail, script and sounds execution) when certain events are received;
  • Hierarchical topological maps, with facilities for locations and links creation, background image customization, filters and zoom;
  • Reports via Web interface, including physical inventory (devices, slots, ports, links and GPON ONUs) and logical inventory (circuits and their network path), exportable to HTML, PDF, Microsoft Excel (XLS and XLSX) and CSV, with configurable scheduling for sending by e-mail and FTP or SFTP server, and the possibility to create favorites;
  • Complete configuration of Datacom devices, including identification and location data;
  • Configuration backup of the managed elements, scheduled or on-demand, with aging and automatic removal of these files;
  • Equipment bayface visualization and monitoring, allowing a clear identification of the operation status and active alarms;
  • Firmware updates, which can be executed in multiple devices simultaneously;
  • Execution of diagnostic actions (eg loop testing) and visualization of performance parameters and counters;
  • End-to-end circuits provisioning, point-to-point and multipoint, over different technologies as PDH, SDH, Carrier Ethernet (L2 and MPLS) and GPON, with automatic path discovery or path choice by the user;
  • Audit logs for user actions, as login and logout, creation, edition and removal of configurations, circuits and devices;
  • North-bound integration using REST interfaces, SNMP traps or CSV files;
  • Installation in physical or virtualized environments;
  • Support to redundant servers operatin in high availability, with automatic fail-over and load balancing;
  • Support to operating systems Microsoft Windows Server and Linux CentOS and Oracle and MongoDB databases.

Licensing

DmView is available in the following licensing options:

  • DmView Enterprise Lite: up to 15 managed devices.
  • DmView Enterprise 50: up to 50 managed devices.
  • DmView Enterprise 150: up to 150 managed devices:
  • DmView Enterprise Unlimited: no limit of managed devices (in this case, the practical limitation will be given by the available HW, which can receive upgrade to raise the limit. Contact Datacom for HW dimensioning).

The managed devices referenced above do not include the TR-069 CPEs. DmView Enterprise Lite allows to manage through TR-069 up to 2000 Datacom CPEs and up to 100 Multivendor (non-Datacom) CPEs. It is possible to manage more CPEs through licensing.

The above options do not include the features which require a specific licensing option, which are these:

  • CLI Template Multivendor: allows to apply CLI templates on third party devices.
  • High Availability: allows the high availability of DmView through HW redundancy.

The following license option, already including the licensable features, is also available:

  • DmView Enterprise Unlimited Plus: no limit of managed devices, including the CLI Template Multivendor and High Availability options.

The Enterprise Lite option is free, and is available for download in the self-service site of Datacom support (request an user access to
the site, if you do not have access yet): https://supportcenter.datacom.com.br.

Applications

DmView is deployed in networks with a large amount of devices and several simultaneous users, offering all FCAPS management functionalities (Fault, Configuration, Accounting, Performance and Security). In large service providers it is common to use a separate IP network only for management systems (called DCN - Data Communication Network), but it is also possible to use inband management.

Below can be seen an use case of Carrier Ethernet network management.

DmView uses IP addressing to reach the managed devices. Some remote devices offer the possibility to use proprietary protocols and specific configurations, and can be seen as remotes of the IP addressable devices.

The application below shows a TDM network, using nx64 or nxE1 channels for management.
